RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG Acquires Minority Share in Software Provider Tiplu GmbH

RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG, one of the leading healthcare providers in Germany, has acquired a minority share in the software provider Tiplu GmbH in Hamburg. RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG therefore continues its digitalisation strategy by means of a successful strategic partnership. Founded in 2016 Tiplu has specialised in accompanying DRG-coding (diagnosis-related group = DRG) and safeguarding revenues by applying semantic text analyses to hospital documents, such as medical reports, laboratory findings or OP documentation. RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG uses Tiplu's Momo coding software for comprehensive and performance-related billing, to safeguard revenues and to review the duration of hospital stays. Both parties have agreed to keep financial details confidential.

Stephan Holzinger, RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG's CEO, stated: "In 2017 we initiated a rigorous package of measures to tackle the industry-related problem of avoidable losses which arise when the Medical Review Board of the Statutory Health Insurance Funds (Medizinischer Dienst der Krankenversicherungen - MDK) raises objections to hospital bills. We have been able to safeguard significant revenues and make our DRG-coding much more efficient by applying Momo. Tiplu GmbH's aims of helping to further automate and optimise the documentation and coding processes by applying semantic text analyses are similar to ours. We can further improve Momo's performance by linking the billing expertise in our corporate hospitals with the leading technology in the market and Tiplu's reference material for the benefit of all our patients and clients. Our share in Tiplu is therefore an important step in implementing our digitalisation strategy and speaks for our confidence in the company."

Tim Aschenberg, Tiplu GmbH's CEO, emphasised the advantageous cooperation: "As a pioneer and architect for digitalisation processes in hospitals RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG's aims are on the same wavelength as those of Tiplu. Our knowledge of current technologies in combination with direct access to potential areas of application leads to a huge range of development possibilities for software in hospitals. RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG is the only private healthcare provider in Germany which covers every possible medical field including university medical care. Against this background our partnership is particularly valuable on the one hand in order to tailor further developments according to requirements and on the other hand in order to be able to carry out tests in pilot hospitals. We are thus able both to continue to expand our position as the market leader in technology for safeguarding revenue and also to develop new areas for applying our software in hospitals."

As a pioneer in digitalisation in the hospital sector RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG already relies on a series of digital applications, the aim of which is to assist physicians and nurses in their work, to further enhance the care of patients and to improve the documentation of rendered services. This includes our medical portal concept (electronic patient records), for example, which enables continuous efficient and safe patient care. It facilitates communication between local doctors, like GPs or specialist doctors, and hospital physicians with the possibility to retrieve the latest information electronically.

The Medical Cockpit of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG offers medical staff a semantic search of all relevant information in medical reports, OP reports and x-ray diagnoses. Our staff is therefore given a faster comprehensive overview of the patient's history. The Medical Cockpit is integrated in the clinical information system and has access to our universal archive. Further applications are our tools for the online management of appointments or digital medical history.
