RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG Strengthens its Competitive Position and Invests 4 Million Euros in Research into Cutting-Edge Medical Care and Treatment Excellence in 2015

Bad Neustadt / Saale, 30th January 2015

With a significant increase in the research budget for 2015 RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG is consciously strengthening its competitive position in treatment innovation and state-of-the-art healthcare. Accordingly projects concentrating on "research and innovation" and "treatment excellence and network medicine" are to be financed in the coming months with a total volume of roughly 4 million Euros. The research and innovation package includes projects for all five corporate group sites.

"Our hospitals offer state-of-the-art healthcare which is orientated to maximum medical care and has a direct link to research. The use of advanced medical technology based on the latest results of research being efficiently transferred to medical practitioners is essential here as is effective nursing care for our patients," said Dr. Dr. Martin Siebert, CEO of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG. "It is therefore self-explanatory that we are making significant investments in this area in order to maintain and expand our attractive range of services and retain our unique standing in the market. We hope to obtain further competitive advantages from this research expenditure in the medium to long term and therefore also clearly achieve benefits in revenues and growth," Siebert continued.

The company is financing a total of 61 individual projects this year. Particular focus will be placed on personalised medical care with tailor-made therapeutic methods using state-of-the-art molecular genetics. A specific application is the exact circumstances and treatment of brain tumours, for example. Projects on telemedical healthcare and e-health are another particular emphasis. In future, implanted devices, such as pace-makers or defibrillators, will send data on complications or particular occurrences to special centres on a continuous basis. Doctors will then be able to treat the patients accordingly before serious complications arise. There will also be projects on organization and logistics such as improving the link between in-patient treatment and follow-up care in the home.
