Saale, February 21, 2013Patients of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG appeared to be largely unfazed by theoccasional periods of turbulence that characterized the 2012 financialyear: at more than 2.5 million, more people were treated in the Group'sfacilities than ever before. This strong increase in patient numbersenabled RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG to set a new revenue record of EUR2.86 billion The commitment of our management resources to non-operational mattersfollowing the take-over attempt by Fresenius had a negative impact on ouroperations last year. This factor combined with one-off costs, such assubstantial consulting costs and personnel changes on our management board, caused a decline in net consolidated profit by around 43 % to EUR92million. EBITDA amounted to around EUR292 million in 2012 and was thereforeroughly 14 % lower than the adjusted figure for the previous year. TheWiesbaden-based hospital, Dr. Horst Schmidt Kliniken (HSK), wasconsolidated for the first time on May 1, 2012.'These are respectable figures in view of the extremely difficultcircumstances and conditions in the 2012 financial year. But they certainlydo not mean that we can rest on our laurels, and indeed we have nointention of doing so,' said Dr. Dr. Martin Siebert, Chairman of the Boardof Management at RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG. CFO Jens-Peter Neumann added: 'We arecurrently working very hard to introduce more efficient internalcontrolling and management tools at all locations. By increasingtransparency, we will be able to control operations more precisely andcreate new potential to improve the current unsatisfactory earningssituation.'OutlookIn 2013, RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG expects to exceed the EUR3 billion revenuethreshold for the first time (EUR3.03 billion with a fluctuation range of2.5 %). This target is accompanied by an EBITDA forecast of EUR325 millionand a net consolidated profit forecast of EUR110 million, each with afluctuation range of +/-5 %.'Some of the challenges we face in 2013 are typical of the industry, whileothers are of our own making. It will be the shared responsibility of themanagement board to quickly improve the company's position. Severalnecessary measures have already been rigorously implemented during thefirst few months of my term in office, and I am therefore cautiouslyoptimistic that we will be able to demonstrate a more positive developmentwithin the foreseeable future, particularly with regard to the profitsituation,' concluded Dr. Dr. Martin Siebert.Overview of key figures* 2012 2013 Change in %Treated patients 2,555,822 2,277,153 +12.2 %Revenue in EUR millions 2,864 2,629 +8.9 %EBITDA in EUR millions 292 338 -13.6 %Net consolidated profit in EUR millions 92 161 -42.9 %* Preliminary and unaudited financial figures with possible roundingdifferences;EBITDA 2011 adjusted for non-operating one-time effectsEnd of Corporate News
