The attorneys of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG today received by way of post the decision that had been announced by the German Cartel Office prohibiting the sale to RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG of the district hospitals in Bad Neustadt/Saale and Mellrichstadt.

Within the next few days RHÖN-KLINIKUM Group expects to receive the detailed statement of grounds in the original which will be evaluated immediately. Without exhausting the time limit, an appeal will be lodged with the Düsseldorf Court of Appeals. “We are confident of success since the Cartel Office does have any material cause for interfering with hospitals: given the regime of statutorily fixed prices at hospitals, market power cannot be used to raise prices abusively. Hence, the Cartel Office’s attempt to have a say in how the system of generalised healthcare is to work cannot be justified.
