- Further increase in patient treatments by 9.2 % is proof of the trust in the high quality of medical care offering
- Rise in net consolidated profit by 7.4 % confirms the success of hospital group’s business model
RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG today publishes its preliminary figures for the past financial year 2009. Revenue and earnings targets were comfortably met. Cost increases were compensated by the Group’s restructuring expertise and increased service volumes in the inpatient and outpatient areas. “More and more patients are taking advantage of our offering of high-quality and generalised medical care. The trust that patient put in the quality of our medical offering is our most important asset”, said Wolfgang Pföhler, chairman of the Board of Management of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG.
In 2009, a total of 1.8 million patients were treated in the Group’s facilities. That represents a rise of 9.2 %. During the same period, revenues rose by 8.9 % to 2.3 billion euros. Net consolidated profit increased as forecast by 7.4 % to 131.7 million euros. Compared with last year, EBITDA was raised by 7.7 % to 283.0 million euros and EBIT by 5.3 % to 181.2 million euros. Operating cash flow saw an increase of 10.2 % to 235.5 million euros.
The Group’s biggest subsidiary, Universitätsklinikum Gießen und Marburg, for the first time made a significant contribution to the result, generating revenues of 503.3 million euros and a profit of 4.8 million euros in 2009. Construction work on new buildings is proceeding on schedule and the commissioning of the Gießen site at the beginning of 2011 marks a further milestone for a positive earnings trend. Particularly pleasing is the steadily rising number of patients and referrals. For the Company that is proof of the growing trust being placed in the private university hospital.
The capital increase in August 2009 was a milestone in financial year 2009. “We are now poised for a further expansion in our healthcare offering based on integration between medical disciplines, facilities and healthcare sectors. With the capital increase in the gross volume of roughly 460 million euros in August 2009, we have created the ideal financial basis for this”, explained Dr. Erik Hamann, CFO of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG.
“Our shareholders have given us an advance on their trust and invested in our business model. With the takeover of the MEDIGREIF group in the 4th quarter of 2009, we succeeded in further expanding our healthcare provision network in Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and in confirming the past growth course”, concluded Pföhler.
The Company confirms its forecast for 2010. Despite a challenging environment, the Company expects to generate revenues of approximately 2.6 billion euros and a net profit of roughly 145 million euros within a range of plus/minus 5 %.
